EasySTEM in Partnership with Peace Corps

Bringing Quality Digital Learning to Underserved Communities
EasySTEM X Peace Corps Deployment | Supported by UNICEF

Overview

The Digital Learning Hub in a Bag is a fully mobile, solar-powered digital classroom developed by EasySTEM in partnership with UNICEF and supported by the Peace Corps. This all-in-one education kit is designed to bridge the digital divide by making high-quality, curriculum-aligned content accessible in rural and off-grid communities.

Each bag contains:

  • The EasySTEM Server (offline access to interactive content)
  • Tablets (5 per kit)
  • Projectors, LED lights, and extension cables
  • A solar charging station and portable battery pack

The Hub supports 30–50 concurrent users, making it ideal for schools, community centers, and night study groups. The kit is designed for mobility, offline use, and durability, offering a scalable solution to increase digital learning and literacy.

The Problem

Sierra Leone and many parts of West Africa continues to face significant barriers to inclusive education:

  • 99% of schools lack internet connectivity
  • Over 70% of the population is offline
  • Students in rural areas, especially girls, face additional challenges such as long commutes, early marriage, and limited access to digital tools
  • Only 3 out of 25 teachers trained in the deployment had ICT backgrounds, highlighting a digital literacy gap among educators
  • High dropout rates and limited infrastructure continue to restrict learning outcomes

Efforts to address this gap are often hindered by expensive infrastructure needs and unsustainable models that do not adapt to rural realities.

Our Solution

DHL in a Bag solves these challenges by offering a low-cost, mobile, and scalable digital learning solution that works in even the most remote areas.

Key features include:

  • Offline access to curriculum-aligned content via the EasySTEM Server
  • Gamified and interactive educational content for students
  • Solar-powered system ensures learning continues even without electricity
  • Portability allows for use in classrooms, communities, and student study groups
  • Local training for teachers and facilitators with a focus on hands-on engagement
  • Gender inclusion strategy that raised female participation from 23% to 80% during deployment

By empowering both students and teachers with digital tools, the Hub promotes inclusive, student-centered learning across different age groups and communities.
